The General Internal Medicine Statewide Preceptorship Program is excited to
share with you its tremendous success this year. Here is a summary of
this year’s matching:

STUDENT STATS
|
- 287 students applied to participate in either the spring break or
summer preceptorships
- 71 students withdrew their applications because of family, vacation
and other personal reasons
- 8 students were withdrawn from the program because we were unable
to place them with doctors in their requested area(s)
- 12 students successfully completed spring break preceptorships
- The following is a breakdown of both spring break and summer preceptorships:
- 120 completed 4-week rotations (58%)
- 19 completed 3-week rotations (9%)
- 48 completed 2-week rotations (23%)
- 21 completed 1-week rotations (10%)
- 40 students (19%) were placed in rural and underserved areas
- All eight Texas medical schools participated in the GIMSPP program,

- Our original goal was to place a total of 200 students in 2001,
and we are happy to have exceeded our goal.

PRECEPTOR STATS
|
- We currently have 351 preceptors on our volunteer preceptor roster
- 277 of them (79%) were available and willing to have students in
2001
- 151 of the 277 available preceptors (55%) from 61 different cities
actively participated this year
- 22 new preceptors were recruited into the GIMSPP since January 1,
2001
- The Teaching in Your Office faculty development book was
sent to all preceptors regardless of active participation
