Texas Chapter Receives 2022 Evergreen Award

(June 2022) The John Tooker Evergreen Awards Program provides recognition and visibility to chapters that have successfully implemented programs to increase membership, improve communication, increase member involvement, enhance diversity, foster careers in internal medicine and improve management of the chapter. The Texas Chapter received a 2022 Evergreen Award for their program, Designing and Developing a Statewide Internal Medicine Residency Program Virtual Showcase.

Themes: Communication, Education, Medical Students, and Residents/Fellows

It was our hope to educate and inform the medical education community about the process of designing and developing an event such as this and to serve as a template of how to successfully recreate a virtual webinar series.

For the last 2 years, medical students and residency programs have had to contend with an   unprecedented residency application process due to COVID-19. All aspects of residency interviews for 2020 and 2021 residency recruitment season were virtual. To help with the format, members of the Texas Medical Student Council created a student-led, statewide Internal Medicine virtual webinar series in 2020 and 2021. The goal of the program was to connect medical students to program-specific leadership and to provide insight into a program's values/missions prior to attending a virtual invited interview. This was the first student-led initiative to virtually showcase Internal Medicine Residency Programs and because of interest across the nation, a toolkit is in development for the ACP website.

Congratulations Texas Chapter Medical Student Council Members on this initiative and award. And special thanks to IM Residency Programs and Faculty for your participation!
