TXACP Committees

Medical Student Committee

Duties: oversee the administration of the General Internal Medicine Statewide Preceptorship Program and other funds in providing one- to four-week preceptorship experiences for medical students; serve as liaison with medical schools; promote career choice of internal medicine; support internal medicine student groups; host medical student competitions and events during the annual Chapter meeting

Residents Committee

Duties: maintain an active affiliation with all Texas residency programs to promote the choice of internal medicine as a career; increase participation by Associates and residents in Chapter activities; promote membership in ACP; host events for residents during the annual Chapter meeting

Communications Committee

Duties: develop original editorial content for newsletter and Web site; encourage interactive electronic communication between members; search out and provide qualified content; determine and implement editorial policies; moderate bulletin boards and list serves; plan strategically for the future development of Chapter communications

Health and Public Policy Committee

The Health and Public Policy Committee is one of two committees dealing with advocacy issues for TXACP Services. The committee is responsible for legislative issues including medical liability reform, managed care reforms such as standardized contracts and physician negotiation, and scope of practice negotiations. The committee monitors developments in medical practice and health care delivery affecting the health care of patients and the practice of internal medicine and its subspecialties. In addition, the committee advises and directs the work of the chapter's advocacy staff in implementing the chapter's legislative agenda. 

Medical Services Committee

The Medical Services Committee is one of two committees involved in advocacy for TXACP Services. The Committee is responsible for legislative issues such as prompt payment, Medicare payment and reform, and physician licensure issues including recertification. The committee monitors public policy developments in health care financing that impact the provision of high-quality and cost-effective care to patients.   The Committee shall make recommendations to the Board of Directors as it deems appropriate.

 

Credentials/Membership Committee

Duties: assist Governors in reviewing applications for Member and Fellow; promote membership in TXACP and ACP.

Local Nominations Committee

Duties: recruit and nominate candidates to run in statewide elections for Directors and Officers of the Board

Education Committee

Duties: plan the annual educational program and other educational programming
